ABASA WOMEN 6TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY LECTURE

In the month of March 2021, women across the world are commemorating Annual International Women’s Day under this year’s global UN Women theme being “Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID – 19 world”, celebrating the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal world. This is complimented by the #IWD2021 campaign theme #ChooseToChallenge.

For ABASA, this month also commemorates the inception of Women of ABASA which was founded on the 11th of March 2015 by Past Madam President Tantaswa Fubu under the overarching theme “The authenticity of our freedom lies at the feet of women liberation”.

As we prepare to celebrate the 6th year anniversary of Women of ABASA we have reflected on our founding theme and that of the annual international day for women to formulate a clear message that mergers the above and one that will serve as the theme for this year’s Annual Women’s Lecture and carry our mandate for the year.

The Women of ABASA theme for 2021 to be launched at this lecture is Women Leading: An Equal Future Will Only Be Achieved Through Deliberate Leadership. This theme serves to extend on the founding declaration of Women of ABASA which reminds us that there is no real equality if women are not liberated. It further challenges the UN Women theme “Women in Leadership ” by showing a more active stance. By saying “Women Leading” we are challenging women in leadership to use their inherent power deliberately to secure the equal future that needs to be achieved despite these uncertain times.
